A woman in the UK has been sending boxes of reading books to over twenty-five schools in remote parts of the Philippines through her self-funded Book Project since 2014.

Hope Davila, who independently runs and funds the project, said, “I went to a primary school in a remote village in the Philippines, where the only books were textbooks.

The library in my college was my favourite place, and I dreamed of making books available to primary schools.”

Although during the pandemic the project had to go on hiatus because the Philippines closed its borders, Hope continued to help the schools, despite not being able to send books.

She said, “the kids who go to the schools we help don’t have phones or computers, so teachers have to print and deliver the lessons. Instead of sending books, I sent money to buy paper and ink to donate to some schools.”

Because the project is entirely funded by Hope, she said all she really hopes for the future is that “at least one person can be inspired by it.”
