Birmingham will host the UK’s largest annual construction event at the NEC this week.
One of the main focuses of UK Construction Week 2021 is sustainability, in both the talks and the organisation of the week itself.
The Construction Week website said, “we are dedicated as organisers to make sure we consider all 3 key pillars of sustainability (social, economic and environmental) when planning the show and are always seeking new ways to address these.”
The organisers have launched “Mission Sustainable” for the event, which outlines their pledges and promises for sustainability during the show, including “all our contractors have been obliged to provide us with their sustainability policy before we contract any work.”
Currently, 45% of UK carbon emissions come from built construction, so the area called “The Sustainability Hub” which offers numerous talks solely focused on how to make the industry more environmentally friendly is being used during the show.
The World Green Building Trends 2018 report says most construction companies in the UK “expect they will be doing the majority of their projects green by 2021”.
